About

Tyler is a Guitarist, Music Teacher, Producer, and Recording Artist that was born and raised in San Diego, CA. In addition to his solo project instrumental music, you can also find him in San Diego bands Comfort Club, [bxwd], and Cherry Road.

In 2014, Tyler joined the San Diego based music school Mobile Music Teacher as a Guitar, Bass, and Ukulele Instructor. Over the coming years, Tyler’s passion for teaching and creating grew stronger and stronger. He eventually decided to amicably part ways with Mobile Music Teacher, and start a private lessons business of his own. Tyler travels all around San Diego county teaching private, in-home lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.

From 2015 through 2019, Tyler was the guitarist and backup vocalist for the local San Diego ‘Groove Rock’ band, Cherry Road. The band recorded, produced and released two EP’s and played shows all around Southern California.

Following his departure in Cherry Road, Tyler founded a new blues-rock project he called [bxwd], or “boxwood”. In 2020, the group released their debut EP, Lotus. The album showcased Tyler’s expression as a blues guitarist, and would be the first of his work as Executive Producer.

In 2022, from the comfort of his DIY bedroom home studio, Tyler wrote, recorded, produced and released his debut solo project instrumental album titled Nothing Interesting Happens. This album marked the birth of Tyler’s new style as a guitarist and musician. NIH shines through on many facets from musical inspirations of rock, blues, jazz, metal, acoustic, and more. Specific artist influences of NIH include his “hometown heroes” Mario Camarena and Erick Hansel of Chon, Yvette Young of COVET, and various blues guitar legends of both past and present.

In 2024, Tyler followed up his previous work with an instrumental EP - Super Effective. This album would serve as a more refined musical representation of Tyler’s creative vision and unique style on the electric guitar.

The following year, Tyler formed a band of his own - called the Tyler Gill Trio (TG3) with local musicians and friends Nate Sanders on drums and Brian Spencer on bass. TG3 frequently plays local shows around San Diego, and serves as an inspirational challenge to see just how far Tyler is capable of pushing his playing and ingenuity in a live, trio setting.

Finally, in 2026, Tyler joined the San Diego/LA based indie-rock band Comfort Club. Throughout the year, the band has toured around California, Nevada, Texas and internationally in the UK. Comfort Club has an album set to be released in November of 2026, and will be touring the remainder of the year and into 2027.

After refining his mixing and production skills throughout the past 10+ years, Tyler is now offering his services to local San Diego independent bands/artists.
